  Two rocking chairs

What an utterly amazing experience from start to finish. We were kept up to date with each and every stage including pictures. James couldn’t have been more helpful so we purchased not one but two of these beautiful timeless pieces. Not just form but function, the most comfortable way to pass the time, pure luxury. Highly recommended!!!

James has been exceptional. Not only did he rise to the challenge of creating 20 solid oak tables, he's managed to do it in our very tight timeframe of 2 weeks. Communication has been second to none, with regular pictures sent. We could not have asked for more. Highly recommend him and his craftmanship and he will be first choice for our next furniture project. Thanks James, you've been a star

  Hi James,

I just wanted to thank you again for your wonderful craftsmanship.

I am using the stand at the moment but am spending more time looking at the beauty of the wood than my music!

  Regards

  Graham

  Rocking Chair for autistic daughter

We commissioned James to make a rocking chair for our adult daughter, who is autistic and uses a rocking chair to manage sensory overload (‘stimming’). She’s previously worn out the most expensive manufactured chairs, but this individually designed chair is in a class of its own, and will clearly last. James took account of our daughter’s height and size; she is petite and 5’ tall, so this is the smallest adult chair he makes. It’s therefore close enough to the ground so she can use her feet to make the chair rock, a first for her, as shop bought chairs are too big. It’s also wide enough for her to sit cross legged and rock, using her core, as she once did on rocking horses and swings. Our daughter loves it.
Not only is it perfect for our daughter in every way, it’s an aesthetically beautiful piece of furniture in a shared living room.
James was a pleasure to work with, and has taken every care to understand how the chair might be used, adding his own professional knowledge and research to our suggestions. For the quality of his work, his pricing is very reasonable indeed. I recommend him for any commission without hesitation.

As a member of a local group, we wanted to commission a bench seat for a church graveyard (Crook nr Kendal), designed and built by a local craftsman and using Cumbrian oak. Based on a web search, I stumbled across James / Hill Top Furniture and what a fortuitous find he was! James exceeded our expectations. From beginning to end he communicated well, taking on board our suggestions and keeping me updated with regular messages and photos - thus making me feel engaged with the project. An added bonus was discovering that he had links with my local village, having trained with Waters and Acland in Staveley. The bench is exactly what we had hoped for and is absolutely beautiful.

  Oak Extending Dining Table

We asked James to make us a bespoke oak pedestal dining table. He carefully selected some local brown oak and took his time to get the design right. He consulted us regularly, sometimes daily to ensure we were happy with it. The end result is a beautiful, elegant table to compliment our new kitchen diner. It’s perfect and when we have visitors it extends to comfortably sit six people. We can highly recommend James’s work and have asked him to make us some matching dining chairs.

  Desk for home working

I'm delighted with my desk. James is easy to deal with and adapted my ideas into something unique. The design process meant that I could see the early design and progress via shared photos. All of this meant that my desk is locally produced rather than being shipped from the other end of the country, and at a similar price - I'm very happy writing this review from my new desk! We're planning a book case to follow the desk, so we are really very pleased and would have no hesitation in recommending.
