It really pains me to change my review of this place but recently something has happened to their food. Simply put they used to have the best burger in jc. I would have to say label handily beats them now. I have given mid city multiple chances recently to wow me with their food but the burger I just finished was quite possibly the most bland dry burger I've ever had from a restaurant. It makes me really really sad.
I have heard about this place for years. I had just never given it a try. Tonight I was being a bit lazy and wanted delivery. I found Mid City's delivery fee was only $2. Decided it was a perfect time to try them.
I seriously regret not trying here years ago. Only ordered a couple of burgers and fries, expecting nothing special. I was definitely wrong. DELICIOUS!!!Prices were reasonable. They have an extensive menu. Delivery was prompt. I will be definitely ordering again.
I have eaten at mid city grill regularly for at least 15 years and the food (especially the hamburgers and fries) have been stellar! Four months ago, my wife and I got a hamburger and fries and a roast beef dip and the portions were considerably smaller! The food quality was not near what the food quality was in the past either. Yesterday my wife and I gave mid City grill a second chance I got a hamburger and fries and the fries were tough like they had been stting out for a while and the hamburger was overdone. My wife's food was a little better but not much. We will not be eating at mid City grill anymore. I don't know if ownership has changed or if the cooks have changed or if the owner is not monitoring the quality of the food. It's just sad because this was one of our favorite places when we were dating.
I don't leave reviews, it's not my thing. But this place is amazing. My husband and I split the Heater burger, a 12 ounce burger topped with jalapenos and sriracha mayo. It was out of this world! And the fries are to die for. I can't wait to come back. It's worth the hour drive from Morristown. Probably one of the best burgers I've ever had
BEST burger in the tri-cities region hands down. A close second is Bristol, Va-- "Burger Bar.". A good mention for best "blackened blue" burger is "The Label," with their crispy toppings. ... But the "Mid City Grill" still allows you to make your own buffalo style--and they have the fried pickles, fried pepperoncinis, and various other sides that put them "over the top."
I will start by saying I previously had left a glowing review and we used to come here all the time when the previous owner was there. This used to be our absolute favorite place to get burgers and biscuits and gravy! We have been there a few times since the new owners took over and I was let down both times with some of the changes as well as the food quality and the service wasn’t as good as it usually was but I will say in their defense the servers seemed over worked and not treated the best by whomever was running the kitchen. The last time we were there may be the last time we come I’m not sure we may give it awhile and try again and see if the kinks are worked out. The last time we were there it was our first time coming in during brunch hours we normally are there for dinner or late night. On our most recent visit Our server this day was super nice I will say that. We ordered a beckinator burger with a salad and a double order of biscuits and gravy. We had to wait forever on food which is fine I will gladly wait within reason as long as my food is of good quality. We get our food and my salad was great. My salad was great but my burger tasted off compared to what it usually does but I ate it I figured new cook or something but I wasn’t impressed and it wasn’t hot like it normally is. The biscuits and gravy which are normally our favorite Of anywhere hands down were not good at all. The gravy was bland, thick, and seemed as if it had maybe been sitting awhile or been reheated. The worst part was that the biscuits where completely hard especially the bottoms they couldn’t even hardly be cut with her fork. Usually when hard they have been cooked for awhile. You may need to look into making less more often for freshness or maybe a steam drawer for holding which won’t dry them out as much. A week or so prior to this I visited on a date night we should have known when we walked in and where greated by screaming from whoever was running the kitchen to the staff. that this would be a not so great visit. It took a few minutes but we were finally seated and he ordered a outlaw burger with home fries and I ordered a big daddy I think it’s called no bun with salad. I have to say as someone with many years in management in both restaurant and finance that how whoever was running the kitchen was talking to the staff was absolutely unprofessional and unacceptable. It went on for the entire duration of our visit. If you have a problem with your staff by all means correct them, coach them, retrain them but screaming at them to the point it can be clearly heard through the entire restaurant is not how you motivate or run a successful and productive team. Our food was mediocre at best and the home fries he got where cold. We didn’t say much and tried to be understanding and just eat our food as we didn’t want anymore issues for anyone from the kitchen seemed it was a bad enough night as it was. We made the comment to our server gee someone is having a bad night and his reaction made it seem as if this was a common occurrence for whoever it was. Our server was great although he did make us feel a bit rushed and were to pay halfway through eating as he had to get to break. It seemed as if it was frowned on if he hadn’t by a certain time because he was working a double. And we then didn’t see him again and had to waive down a nearby waitress to grab us a box. Food quality issues this night seems common. Im fairly observant and noticed two tables next to us who sent back parts of their orders. We actually felt unwelcome this night by some. I hope the kinks are worked out and that things come somewhat back to normal soon. I can say we were disappointed to see some of the wall decor go. It simply didn’t have the homey safe space for all feel that it’s always had in the past. We were told on our last visit new owners where doing renovations and that there would be more changes and some new artwork which we will be excited to see if we return.
Johnson City is beginning to solidify itself as a force to be reckoned with within the vegan scene of the Southeast US, and Mid City Grill is one of the main reasons why.
From the awesome early morning availability on the weekends to the sheer variety of what to choose from, a vegan will quickly find themselves very pleased with deciding to eat here. I had the Philly Cheesesteak and was pleasantly surprised at how flavorful the cheese and seitan were specifically. The fries come in generous portions, and although the ranch is a bit too thin the flavor of it certainly helps make up for it's lack of texture. All in all, a lovely place!
This is our absolute favorite place in town to go when we need something delicious and reliable. We were unsure at first because of the hours/BYOB we weren't sure if it was a family friendly place but I definitely is! Our daughter loves it just as much as we do and it's hard to get a 6 year old to eat anything at a restaurant.. every burger that we've tried deserves 10 stars alone and the massive serving you get for fries just tops it all off especially when you can doctor them up with buffalo sauce and some Bleu cheese I could have swore I left a review before but I can't find it so I'd just like to stop in and let the world know just how much we appreciate your quality food and even better atmosphere!
My first time trying this place solely for the vegan options. Was very disappointed by the food and customer service. The waitress made us wait 15 minutes before even getting our order. She then took our order and 5 minutes later gave us food that was not ours. When we told her it was like she had forgotten what we ordered altogether. Finally got my vegan burger and it was awful. Bad quality all around and just tasted horrible. She also never gave us silverware or napkins I had to get up and find some. She then waited 20 minutes to come back and when we were asked if we wanted our check separated, while we were answering she wasn’t even facing up. We said we wanted our meal on one check then she immediately said “you want the checks separate” we said no, we wanted the food on 1 check. She said okay and then brought us two checks... If the food was good I could have looked past this AWFUL customer service but the food was even worse. Definitely not going back
There are very few places for a vegetarian to get more than just sides in Johnson City, but Mid-City’s vegan menu is incredible!!! This is a must-visit for anyone, as their regular menu is also awesome. Mid City is open late, let’s you BYOB, and best of all has so many options for every person in your party. If you haven’t eaten here, you need to fix that ASAP.
I would never go back first time we got food and it was awful and didn't even get stuff we ordered had to call them back and they said they wood cLl there driver and 20 mins pass by nothing I called them back and they say he dropped it off but come to find out they lied cuz we wanted two of something and they said they only had one and when I get to store it's there so that place is a joke and there food was awful
I went thinking this local dive would have good food. It was not. The warm sandwich that I ordered had lots of fat and grissil that I waited 35 minutes for. I sent it back and just ordered a salad that was mostly iceberg lettuce. There to pricey for the quality of food they offer. Skip this one and try one of the other local restaurants.
Great original food, and every time we go the waitress can usually give great suggestions or description of menu. Didn't know until last visit that Jeff had sold or leased restaurant, but it hasn't hurt the food quality one bit.
Order food from there every week just about and to me love the food..bigdaddy burger omg..got to try it its filling love it can't ask for a better burger good job you deserve it 100 stars if they'd let me but truly good job keep it up
Everything I’ve had here has tasted great. The servers are awesome too. It’s a hole in the wall place everyone should try. My husband loves the heater. I had the grilled tofu sandwich last night and it was good. All the burgers are good too.
