You will struggle to find someone with more stoke and instructing prowess than Aaron and Oregon Kiteboarding. My wife and I had the best time and made more progress in learning wing-foiling than we dreamed of. A great time in Hood River.
Aaron is an awesome instructor with tons of stoke and Sandy & I made progress into the new (to us) sport of foiling & winging. We highly recommend Oregon Kiteboarding for your Hood River adventure! Kurt.
I've taken four foiling lessons from Eric and the team so far this summer and I felt super safe every time and learned so much. They don't rush you and give you lots of technical advice which you receive via the headset in the helmet they provide. I look forward to learning how to wing with the foil in a few weeks and that will be really exciting because I know they will help me improve and keep me safe all at the same time. These guys really care and want to see all their students succeed.
I took two wing foiling classes here in July 2021, with instructor Aaron. It was a jet-ski assisted class, with winds averaging 27-28mph and gusts up to 40-45! Crazy conditions, and I would not have felt safe going out on my own. He found a good spot for us to go, so I got a lot of riding in. He corrected my mistakes in the fundamentals, had lots of good suggestions, and I learned a lot. A few days later and I'm able to (not very consistently yet) get some 100 meter runs on foil.
My wife took a class with Mary Rose who was also a great instructor.
Cole, the school owner, is also very knowledgeable.
Everyone was very friendly at the shop and happy to share tips on riding and picking other places, and to help us come up with a "training plan" so that we could improve our riding on our own time.
Took a refresher course from Oregon Kiteboarding after a few years off. They have upgraded the user experience so far beyond what I remembered from my last refresher course from another local company that it was like comparing the Four Seasons to a Motel 6. The whole experience from the jet ski to the equipment to the instruction. I don't mean any disrespect to the competition, but Oregon Kiteboarding is the gold standard and I would recommend them to anyone coming into the sport or just visiting the Gorge.
I had Erik for two lessons this year and one lesson two years ago. We also know him from the Baja where he teaches all winter long. I can’t recommend him enough! He’s very patient and funny. He makes you laugh even when you have a nose full of water. This organization and all of their instructors are extremely focused on safety, which is the most crucial and fundamental aspect of learning how to kite board. After several years with a handful of lessons each year, I’m finally doing it and it’s been worth every bit of energy and water boarding (not really, but kind of!).
If you’re new to kite boarding or even a beginner or intermediate you should consider these folks. The gorge is a blast and it offers all kinds of wind conditions to practice in. Also go with this outfit! They use the jet ski to maximize your energy, minimize the waiting time between attempts and also bring you your board when you lose it (which I still do more often than I’d like.) They absolutely know what they’re doing and you’ll be very safe
As a middle-aged, never-ever (no board experience at all) who decided wing foiling is a must, Oregon Kiteboarding has been instrumental in my progression towards getting comfortable with the foil. Excellent experience, highly recommended!
I just had my first kiteboarding lessons last week with Oregon Kiteboarding. The whole experience was excellent. The instruction was tailored to fit me perfectly (I used to windsurf) and I appreciated the emphasis on safety and developing good habits. My instructor, Tanner was very knowledgeable and personable. And he was totally cool when we both thought I’d lost the board and he’d searched for it on the jet ski (we eventually found it!). Needless to say, I am hooked and looking forward to my next lesson and progressing into a proficient kiteboarder.
As a first time kiter here at the gorge the site can be a bit intimidating. Coach Erik Jensen of Oregon Kiteboarding made my experience here fun, memorable and above all safe. Helmet BB talk comms were a big help throughout our sessions and especially during launch and landing at the event site which can be tricky especially on a busy holiday weekend.
Can’t wait until my next visit!
