We hired Pat from Spruce and Square to widen a couple doors in our basement so they could accommodate our son’s wheelchair, and we could not be happier with the results. He completed a bedroom and a bathroom door, and from the very beginning he brought thoughtful, creative ideas that we never would have considered on our own.
One of the best suggestions was installing a barn door for the bathroom, which created much more usable space for our son to maneuver his wheelchair and make the turn into the room. Even more impressive, Pat designed and put together the barn door himself, saving us the cost of a custom order while still giving us something that looks amazing.
Pat also researched accessibility hardware for us and found specialty hinges that tuck the doors more tightly to the side to maximize clearance space. His attention to detail and understanding of accessibility needs made a huge difference for our family.
Pat also has a fantastic eye for design. Beyond just making the space functional and accessible, he helped make it look intentional, modern, and welcoming. His taste and creativity really elevated the entire project.
As an added bonus, Pat was incredibly patient with our overly friendly Labrador, who was determined to supervise every stage of the project and provide constant “assistance.” Any contractor who can do excellent work while being followed around by a helpful Lab deserves extra credit.
Beyond the quality of his work, Pat is professional, knowledgeable, clean, punctual, and incredibly considerate of the homeowner throughout the entire project. It is rare to find someone who combines craftsmanship, creativity, and kindness the way he does.
Unequivocally, use Spruce & Square for your next project. Highly recommended.
