Great experience. After that I was just happy. The surf instructors are very nice and explain everything really well and adapt the waves and the tasks to the abilities of the participants. Worth every penny and great photos and videos afterwards. I will definitely come back again, next time visiting Oahu.
We had a fantastic time and due to the size of the boards managed to stand up right in the beginning. What I definitely underestimated was the stamina you need to paddle outwards again and again. After an hour we were really exhausted. What was fantastic was that afterwards we could buy photos of us surfing which are really great! That will remain to be a fantastic memory for us.
On our vacation, we had one first time surfer and one surfer experienced from the East coast of Maine, and one Mom in between :) With both dual and private lessons, SGA met each of us where we were at, and gave us each a truly unforgettable experience! We booked more lessons after the first day and they only got better! One of our best family experiences ever- we all improved, felt more comfortable in the ocean, and the team of instructors were incredible! Definitely gave us a warm aloha from Hawaii!
My 2 young kids went surfing with them. They loved it! I highly recommend them for children. They were great even with their different personalities. They were also constantly helpful to me.
Had such a great experience learning with Yuko! I was able to catch the wave and stand on the board for the 1st class! Amazing teacher and amazing experience.
Perfect place for beginners and even old timers. The instructors are super nice and considerate. They not only teach solid surfing techniques but also take great pictures. Couldn’t be better!
It was my 1st surf lesson ever, and Yuko was a great instructor. She made me feel incredibly safe and I had a lot of fun. I didn't manage to stand, but nevertheless I enjoyed the waves. My partner also joined the lesson, and he had a great time on the surfboard, being an intermediate level surfer.
We will continue to catch more waves in the future, and we'll keep in mind Yuko's instructions!

For a person who has severe,i mean severe fear of swimming in an open water and the fact that " I dont know how to swim". I made a choice to this for one reason #1life2live.
-- My surfing coach is a professional surfer. He trains and competes in his field. Mr. Shuji Kasuya and his beautiful family owns Surfer Girl Academy. My experience was memorable and i learned soooo much from him. I felt very safe. Infact, Im considering of buying my own board. Shuji said I'm ready for a real competition LOL.( But Let me learn how to swim first!)
-- BTW, This is my 3rd time in Hawaii. Both trips i almost called them to set my private session but due to anxiety. It has limited my ability to enjoy any water sport. TODAY--- I was soooo happy i finally did it.

Surf Girl Academy was an amazing surf company to go through for a first-time/beginner surf family. SGA accommodated my whole family while we were on vacation in August.
My husband (47 years old), 15 year old son, 9 year old daughter and 7 year old son all received about a 20 minute on land instructional, and then got to practice implementing the steps they learned in the shallow waters to gain a better understanding of what to expect while also helping my family to build up confidence to paddle out.
ALL the instructors/guides were EXCELLENT! For a 2 hour lesson, the student to instructor ratio cannot be beat! My youngest (7 years old) really wanted to surf but was super nervous in the beginning. I had a hard time finding surf lessons for my 9 and 7 year olds, since most lessons I found required kids to be at least 13. SGA was the only surf company that I could find that advertised surf lessons for young children. It worked out wonderfully for me that SGA provided lessons for younger students as well as teens and up - which made SGA a one stop shop for my whole family.
Another thing I really appreciated was their commitment to making sure everyone had a positive experience. I loved that they gave the option to actually have an instructor on boards WITH young students if the student felt any nervousness. My 9 year old daughter was able to surf alone, but having an instructor on the board with my 7 year old son was precisely what my he needed to have a blast while feeling secure in the water.
All my family members had incredible experiences, and memories to last a lifetime. The feedback I gathered from them was they felt their instructors were all extremely knowledgeable, gave their undivided attention to the details of my family’s surf mechanics, ensured each of my family members caught waves (which they caught TONS in a two hour span), while also fostering and nurturing a love for surfing. What else could you possibly want for a surf experience?
We absolutely loved our time with SGA, and would highly recommend this company to anyone. It was one of the highlights of our vacation!

To be honest, I've taken classes from three instructors in Hawaii, and this academy is the worst experience for me.
Very good lesson and very nice teacher too !!
It was my first time surfing and they got me standing on the board in no time! My daughter had lessons in California and they still was able to give her pointers that she was able to use easily that made her better. Yuko was very helpful.
My 10 yo girl loves her time with SGA. Instructors are nice. She wants to come back to do it again! They will do go-pro and sell you the photos and videos. If you have other little ones to attend to, you can chill at the beach and swim/snorkel while waiting.
