  Thanksgiving B&B

  David & Peggy were gracious hosts! My wife and I are not vegan but the breakfast was excellent every morning and a welcomed change for our normal diets. Sipping coffee by the fire was a nice way to wake up every morning. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the property was beautiful. We didn't have much time to spend at the B&B during the day due to family obligations but we hope to come back and explore the many hiking trails that surround it.

  Quiet, Spacious Rooms & Thoughtful Amenities

  Peggy and David are excellent hosts. The provided a complimentary room to us in honor of Veterans Day. They have great passion for their retreat and what they hope to accomplish. We borrowed one of their dogs, Gable, for our walk on their trails. Don’t miss the creek at the back of the property. As the sun went down, we enjoyed complimentary refreshments on the back porch and enjoyed our conversation with David and Peggy. We continued our relaxing evening with a board game by the fire in the beautiful living room. We opted not to even go out for dinner since we had snacks with us so we could continue the quiet relaxation. We enjoyed our well prepared breakfast by the dining room fire. If you want true peace and relaxation in the Shepherdstown, Harpers Ferry, Antietam, Martinsburg Area, then this beautiful, new inn is for you. It would be great for a corporate or family retreat with the large open spaces, huge wrap around porch, screened porch and expansive patio.

  Beautiful B&B

  Sundogs is absolutely beautiful - inside and outside. The rooms are incredibly spacious and tastefully decorated. We stayed for just one night, but would love to go back and make it a longer stay. The breakfast was delicious and filled us up for a day of kayaking. Peggy took us around the grounds and in addition to meeting the dogs, we also got to meet the goats. We enjoyed sitting out on the patio in the evening and again for breakfast. Thanks for a great stay in Shepherdstown!

  We had an incredible weekend here! The food was amazing, the owners are fantastic and so helpful and knowledgeable of the surrounding area.   Dog Sitter Not Needed

  Very spacious B&B just minutes from downtown Shepherdstown, WV. 47 acres of rural relaxation with hosts Peggy & David, and their dogs, and star goats. Beautiful butterfly gardens and flowers attractive to hummingbirds make this getaway truly relaxing. We brought our senior companion who enjoyed the grounds and screened in porch immensely. Do you want to get away and decompress? Then come stay at Sundogs.

  Absulutely stunning views. Perfectly charming hosts who went above and beyond to feed me according to my dietary needs. I have several allergies for which they were extremely mindful of.   Best B&B Ever--Haven for Nature, Art, Food, and Dog Lovers!

  Everyone in the Philly/Baltimore/DC area should think about visiting here! We came from further away and would return. The B&B is very close to the fabulous arts and restaurant scene of historic Shepherdstown, but located in a bucolic setting of rolling hills and farms.
  The owners, Peggy and David, are horticulturalists and animal-lovers, with impeccable taste in food and furnishings. The grounds attract lovely butterflies and birds. There are mown walking paths all over the 46 acre property. The owners have goats that are retired Broadway stars (yes you theater goers, Showgoats!), as well as rescue chickens.
  The bed and breakfast is gorgeous--wrap around porches with tables for breakfast, an entirely screened side porch, a front porch too. The open-plan first floor has a beautiful, comfortable living room and fireplace, and a dining area with many tables. There is a small kitchenette with wine, and soft drinks to enjoy. Snacks are available from 4-6 PM-- homemade hummus, olives one day, chick pea "tuna", fresh watermelon. Homemade, hearty, vegan or vegetarian breakfast is available from 6:30 AM—fresh fruit, homemade biscuits, jam, quiche, oatmeal, even eggs from the rescue chickens.
  Upstairs the sleeping and bathrooms are luxurious and comfortable. The owners continue to think of all the right touches. Dog blankets, beds, a guest fridge, even cleaning supplies are on offer.
  The C&O tow path, Shepherdstown theater and Harper's Ferry historic sites and hikes are nearby.

  Perfect Dog Friendly Vacation!

  While talking relaxing vacations, a friend of ours mentioned his favorite yearly getaway was to attend the Contemporary American Theater Festival (CAFT) in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. We looked it up, checked into accommodations, but struggled over leaving our dog home. We knew that no trip would truly be a vacation without our dog, George. Then we found Sundogs Bed and Breakfast.
  Bottom line – someday we will come and see plays, but for now, spending time at Sundogs with our dog, George, is the most relaxing time we have had in years.
  We knew when we arrived this was going to be special. The winding road gives you a peek at the house but does not let on to the full magical experience of the butterflies flitting through the air over the flower beds along the walk up to the door in the middle of the front porch. The house is new but has a warm, “always been there feel”.
  The left side of the house is occupied by the owners and the right side, surrounded on three sides by porches, open and screened is occupied by the guests. There is always a perfect place to sit and read or even nap, in or out of the sun. The weather was so nice we didn't take advantage of the living area with a fireplace and spacious dining room. We want to come back in the fall or winter when those rooms will feel snug and warm.
  There is a wide staircase to the upstairs that ends at a window overlooking the front gardens and the hills beyond. There are only five guestrooms – each named after a past or present pet canine – spread throughout the large second floor. These specious bedrooms are beautifully decorated with large modern bathrooms and breathtaking vistas our every window.
  Each day begins with an amazing homemade breakfast. Dave – a meteorologist and half of the husband and wife team, puts together a gourmet meal worthy of comparison to any farm to table chef. And he makes the biscuits and scone himself – impressive! A typical breakfast is coffee, juice, something sweet, followed but a substantial protein and vegetable dish – for example, strawberry shortcake followed by a delicious vegetable filled omelet made with fresh eggs and homemade biscuits. Another day, blueberry scones followed by a vegetable frittata. As Peggy says, “Who says you can’t have dessert first!” A great way to begin the day.
  Breakfast was on the back porch overlooking two large stone patios below. From the porch we could see birds – an Indigo Bunting! -, butterflies and more butterflies. The amazing beauty of the garden and surrounding meadow is all part of a masterplan designed planned by Peggy, the other owner, a horticulturalist/dog trainer who designed all the landscaped areas, the road access path and the winding trails.
  A unique feature of Sundogs is that you can rub elbows with famous Broadway stars of the Emmy Award winning play - Once on This Island - 2 goats, Sparky and Peapod and 4 chickens names after Dreamgirls! They are in retirement on the grounds. I even held a chicken. Not something I ever expected to do in my “never on a farm” life. I now question my consumption of poultry.
  There is so much more to Sundogs and the nearby town of Shepherdstown. All of this, however, is even more amazing due to the Peggy and Dave, the husband and wife team who dreamed of and then built Sundogs. They are truly nice people who make you feel like you’ve been friends forever. Both my husband and I could not get over how easily the conversation flows with them – they know quite a bit about just about everything. George, our dog, certainly benefitted from Peggy’s vast knowledge of canine behavior. We will be better doggy parents as a result of this trip. All in all, it is a wonderful time that we look forward to repeating.

  Wow.. the best for humans and dogs!

  We were fortunate enough to stay at this lovely in on our way to Virginia to visit with our daughter. Peggy and David are gracious hosts with a beautiful just built inn. The home is spacious and comfortable with screened in porches, great sitting rooms with a lovely dog book library and beautiful grounds. They are warm wonderful people willing to share their knowledge about dog behavior and training (Peggy) , vegan recipes (David) and their Broadway starring goats and chickens. The grounds are beautiful and I can’t wait to return to see their evolution as Peggy is a master horticulturist with a passion for natives. This is already paying off with so, so many butterflies. A pre breakfast walk down to the stream is a treat. The breakfast is incredible and I hope many non vegans stay here because this is a glorious entry into the plant based world. The food rivaled any of the 5 star NYC restaurants I’ve ever had.. coupled with the hosts and venue it far exceeds them.
  Also the unexpected offered wine and homemade bread/pizza, hummus, olives in the late afternoon was an unexpected delight. My only sadness was we were traveling without our dog. We will return to rectify that and hope to stay longer next visit!!!!
  As an aside Shepherdstown is also delightful with arts, a great bookstore, a university town. Theatre festivals, movie festivals give reason to go to this area!!

  Terrific Experience at Sundogs

  My husband and I stayed at Sundogs to attend the theater festival ( CATF). The rooms are spacious and new. The bathrooms are enormous with lots of amenities. The air conditioning is controlled in each room. Peggy and David are naturals at hospitality. They serve enormous breakfasts ( donm't be fooled by the first plate of food -- there is a second larger plate.). They provide drinks and snacks late afternoon. The B&B 10 minutes from town and from the university. The C&O Towpath is 10 minutes away for walking and biking.
